Strengthening Muslim American advocacy through grassroots community engagement and local chapter development
Georgia’s Muslim American communities are gaining a stronger voice with the recent launch of the Voices of Muslims (VoM) Macon/Bibb County Chapter. This milestone represents a significant step forward in the organization’s ambitious Chapter Development Initiative, which aims to expand Muslim American advocacy and civic engagement throughout the state.
Building Bridges Through Local Community Chapters
The newly established Macon/Bibb County Chapter exemplifies VoM’s commitment to grassroots organizing and community-centered advocacy. Following the Board of Directors meeting in May 2025, the Chapter Development Initiative has moved from planning to implementation, creating dedicated community hubs that focus on advocacy, civic engagement, and interfaith dialogue.
“This chapter development initiative represents our commitment to meeting communities where they are and ensuring that every Muslim American voice in Georgia is heard and valued,” explains Executive Director Don Mahmood.
Strong Leadership Team Drives Local Impact
The Macon/Bibb County Chapter has already demonstrated its community impact through successful initiatives, including organizing significant turnout at the recent Muslim American Heritage Month Proclamation Ceremony. This early success provides a proven model for future chapter expansion across Georgia.
