As-Salamu Alaykum, everyone!
We are deeply moved by the heartwarming messages we’ve received from all of you. At the start of this year, Voices of Muslims embarked on a momentous journey to recognize July as Muslim American Heritage Month for Georgia. Our vision was to collaborate with legislative officials from both Democrats and Republicans to bring this dream to fruition.
Though the bill unfortunately did not pass this year, we remain steadfast in our belief that, Insha’Allah, it will be successful next year. Over the course of the past six months, we tirelessly sought proclamations from 30 Cities and 6 major Counties. With the unwavering dedication and hard work of Tanjina Islam, Serene Haque, Azaan Khan, Asra Mansoor, Faheem Shah, Don Mahmood, Fahad Khan, and our cherished believer and doer, Rahim Shah Akhunkhail, we achieved our mission and obtained all these proclamations! There were several days in July that we had multiple Proclamation Ceremonies and members of the team traveled tirelessly from city to city, across Georgia.
Our elation drove us to share this achievement with the GA Muslim and non-Muslim community by taking on the momentous responsibility of organizing the Inaugural Muslim American Heritage Month GALA. Tanjina meticulously scouted 13 different venues before settling on Georgia State University ballroom, blessed by Rahim Shah. It took her two months of relentless effort to secure all the necessary legal permissions and complete the paperwork to ensure a flawless venue. Sister Shahneela Memon contributed by distributing 200 posters strategically throughout the greater Atlanta area.
Sister Asra Mansoor joined us to aid in event planning, and we are incredibly grateful for sister Omnia Abdel-Gawad, who shouldered the responsibilities of event management. Dr. Reem delighted attendees with amazing mocktails, and Jerusalem Bakery (on Old Milton) catered the delicious food. Brother Saqib Chaudhry, along with Mohammed Awaiz, took charge of parking and other logistics. Brother Don Mahmood worked tirelessly, overseeing every single detail of social media, branding, marketing, presentation, promotion, and ticket sales. Asif Jessani was a true blessing, managing the AV on the stage. Faheem Shah led the registration duties.
Tanjina extended invitations to Democrat officials, non-Muslim activists, and non-profit organizations, while Rahim Shah worked his magic, bringing both Democrats and Republicans under one roof, alongside Senator Jon Ossoff. Our sincere gratitude goes out to all the sponsors whose support made the event even more significant.
And lastly, a heartfelt shout-out to all our young leaders (Zuhayr, Salsabil, Yasmina, Andy, Haris, Basit, Hasnain, Madiha, Anas and Adeel) who volunteered their valuable time and love to ensure the success of this event. A special mention to the interns of DECISION 168 (Mohamed Abdullah, Muhammed Jamil, Ammar Siddique, Ayaan Siddique, Tariq bin Ahmed, and Shadman Nahin) for their unwavering commitment. Voices of Muslims could not have achieved this without the incredible efforts, dedication, and love from all of you.
THANK YOU, Rahim Shah Akhunkhail, for uniting us all and working together to create a better community for everyone. We look forward to more incredible endeavors in the future, guided by our shared values and aspirations. May peace and blessings be upon you all!
